Cannon® Modernizes Downrigger Technology with Connected Optimum Downrigger

RACINE, Wis., July 8, 2019 – Cannon®, long the gold standard in trolling dependability and performance, is bringing modern connected technology to the category with its new Optimum Downrigger, which will debut at the American Sportfishing Association’s International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST). The product brings the One-Boat Network to life in trolling applications and fully integrates with Humminbird® fish finders, Fish Hawk electronics, a new mobile app and other Optimum downriggers wirelessly.

The Optimum Downrigger boasts a full-color 3.5-inch display. Whether on wirelessly connected Humminbird units, on the downrigger itself or through the Cannon mobile app anglers can raise, lower and set trolling depths for the downrigger weights through the easy-to-use menu. In addition, the user will be able to read surface temperature, as well as the true depth, temperature and speed at the Fish Hawk probe. This information is critical for an angler to precisely present baits.

The potential of the One-Boat Network is fully realized in this new system, where all downrigger data can be read and downriggers can be controlled from any connected Humminbird unit in the boat. The fact that these connections are all wireless makes installation easy.

“Making reliable downriggers has always been our goal but today’s angler is looking for more connected solutions to make boat management and bait presentation more precise and efficient,” said Brad Henry, Cannon brand manager. “As we explore more ways to bring our One-Boat Network to life, connecting the downriggers to Humminbird electronics and Fish Hawk products through a wireless connection means anglers can spend less time worrying about getting their baits to run exactly as they want them to and more time catching fish.”

The new Optimum Downrigger includes the ability to network up to four other Optimum Downriggers wirelessly, simplifying the rigging process. This wireless network provides the ability to share sonar data across all units and display it on the ultra-bright screen, so you always have access to the critical trolling data you need.

The new downriggers boast 250 feet-per-minute retrieval speed, as well as the waterline zero feature which keeps the weight a set distance below the surface of the water.  Sudden stops at ascent and descent points are virtually eliminated by the Soft Stop feature.

When anglers need to cycle the depth of the bait within the water column, the new Optimum allows for presetting depth and time intervals with Depth Cycling to give bait a more natural swimming motion. The additional Bottom Tracking feature adjusts the depth of the weight to automatically keep lines and lures a set distance from the bottom, so anglers have accuracy in bait presentation.

The new Optimum Downrigger is compatible with Humminbird SOLIX® and second generation HELIX® models and will be available in the fall of 2019. Anglers can download the Cannon mobile app online or visit www.CannonDownriggers.com/Optimum for more information.

The Optimum TS Downrigger is built with stainless steel components for saltwater applications.

Maximize the coverage under your boat and see what you’ve been missing. The new TM165HW features a high-frequency range of 150-250 kHz and a super wide 30° average beamwidth, providing maximum coverage across the frequency band. In addition to improving the performance of Chirp-capable fishfinders, anglers using this new wide beam transducer will achieve three times the coverage under the boat compared to our current high-frequency Chirp-ready transducers such as B75H.

Wide beamwidth, together with the high-frequency range, provides vast bottom coverage and precise fish detection in the upper water column that can sometimes go unseen with a narrow beam transducer. Airmar’s new wide beam format also creates crisper and larger return images on the display.

GME introduces new GR350 AM/FM radio

Press release below.

GME has released its new GR350 AM/FM radio, which…. if you’re in the market for a simple happy go lucky am/FM radio for your boat, is good news!. GME has been progressively evolving its line of marine radios from the rounder early 2000s designs to newer contemporary shapes and features “Such as Bluetooth” over the past few years.

The new GR350 follows that evolution step again, Though this time going away from the traditional landscape shaped “DIN” style to a squarer “dare i say POLK/Rockford Fosgate/JL shape” including a 2.5″ color display.
Other than that, it’s all smooth sailing with your usual standard features “AM/FM, BLUETOOTH, AUX IN” 4x 40w channels. would have liked to have seen DAB+ thrown in.

One thing to mention is that it only managed an IP rating of 57. which I assume is taking into effect the open ports/plugs on the back like all stereos however I would be interested to know how waterproof the unit is from the front. “for wash downs and pool parties and such”

For those that want more features, there are plenty of choices. for those who want a simple decent, easy to install yet stylish looking marine AM/FM radio, this will be a great choice.

Available from August in black and white for RRP $249
